Reminder about php4 end of life - 02-27-2008, 12:41 AM

Last year all servers except two were migrated to php5 (from php4) The last two remaining servers were kept on php4 and customers needing php4 for apps not built for or able to run on php5 were moved to those servers.

This is just a reminder that support for php4 is all but ended and those servers must be converted to php5 as time permits. Probably within one month.

The servers running php4 are:
206.212.253.124
and the Sacramento server, which was running php4 & php5, and still is after the recent move to South Bend. 38.102.33.92 >> 206.212.253.84

The SAC server and soon to be the .124 server has the capability to change php versions inside cpanel (the x3 theme) to test scripts on a per site basis.

If you are running sites on either of these two servers you can choose the version inside cpanel as long as the cPanel theme is the latest x3.

Today it is exactly three years ago since PHP 5 has been released. In those three years it has seen many improvements over PHP 4. PHP 5 is fast, stable & production-ready and as PHP 6 is on the way, PHP 4 will be discontinued.

The PHP development team hereby announces that support for PHP 4 will continue until the end of this year only. After 2007-12-31 there will be no more releases of PHP 4.4. We will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 2008-08-08. Please use the rest of this year to make your application suitable to run on PHP 5.

Thanks for the information, Jim.

Can you tell us about how long we'll have access to the old servers after this transfer is complete? For instance, I would like to generate a home directory backup of some sites, in there last known good condition, and download that to my local backup folder.

Ed, I have backups that were taken from the Sacramento server that ranged in dates from 3-1 to 3-3-2008. Just let me know the usernames and I'll put them over into the root of a domain that you specify. I shut the server off a couple days ago, but can also be turned back on, assuming they didn't tear it down. They shouldn't have since we're still paying for it even though we turned it off, but you never know.

Jim, I just ftp'd in, and see that 5 years of image data are missing from Gallery.
Would you please restore the entire site wizov.com from the backup? Also, I'd like to get the backup itself. I'll follow up with a support ticket, and also online chat. I hope this turns out well.

Edit for Update: Ok, I found that the gallery script files are seriously out of date. This is odd, becasue I recently upgraded gallery.

The albums directory is in the wrong place, too. I'll download all of the images to my local, and start thinking of a solution.

If the March backup could be placed in the root, that will help me move to elsewhere.
