AWStats - No IP resolution?
I've been bouncing back and forth between AWStats and Webalizer and there are some things I prefer about the layout in AWStats. The trouble is that AWStats doesn't seem to resolve ANY of the IP addresses of visitors, all are displayed as unresolved.
Is there any way of fixing this?
Thanks,
JAI

any answers?
I am lookng at AWStats also, and have the same question as was asked last year, with no results.
Anyone know? DNS numbers are OK, but lookup ability would be nice.

http://forums.webhostautomation.com/...pic.php?t=1793
The short answer is that DNSLookup parameter is set to 2, which means we see the IP only. If this were set to 1, then lookups would take place.
There is a warning that this can takes loads of time, and I think that is where we are with Webalizer. For instance, my Webalizer stats page is dated 3/6, while AWStats is current to yesterday (3/9.) And of course I can update AWStats on-demand.
Is there a tool or service that will lookup a list of IP's?

good link, Ed
I guess the ideal thing would be to get a stats/log analysis program at home that could parse log files that have been d/l to local machines, and publish results in an HTML format. That way the host wouldn't be flooded.
I've used WebTrends like that for about 3 yrs, but they are getting overpriced for the casual user like me.
Analog is too general, and AWStats is nice looking, but lacking, as you and I know, DNS lookups for those we would like. And countries are a good feature to show clients.
Maybe even just the top 20 viewer's IP resolved. Anyway, it's a nice thought.
Kinda like buying a car: sometimes you need a luxury sedan, sometimes you need a pickup - one size does not fit all.

After a while, you forget the question you've asked.
Here is what I did. It took about 30 minutes to solve. I made an excel workbook that parses what you can copy from AWStats page (say your top twenty.) Then you can copy the list of IP's and...
Download a utility that will process a text file and do the lookups, save the results, and so on. For this I downloaded lookupip from "http://www.clasohm.com/lookupip/"
Download this file for worksheet and instructions.
www.ewurster.com/Download/dnslookup.zip
I also found some code for a vb module that will do the lookup right in Excel, but had difficulty integrating that. Maybe someone can pick that up and improve the worksheet.
