Setting up Boxtrapper - 01-28-2005, 07:50 PM

Setting Up Boxtrapper
Our servers are running CPanelPro which is an upscale version of CPanel. CPanelPro comes with Boxtrapper integrated into its feature list. Boxtrapper is designed to intercept all incoming mail and require the sender to verify that they are a real person and not a faceless spam server. In order to mail you the person is forced to reply to an email which gets automatically sent to them when our mail server receives their email. Once they reply to this email they should never have to do it again unless you remove them from the whitelist.
Setting up and running boxtrapper is pretty straight forward, as are all of CPanels functions. Although CPanelPro is still in beta (the "pro" part of it anyway). The rest of CPanelPro is not in beta, just the added functions such as boxtrapper. As such there can and will be bugs in it, although right now it is believed to be stable.

Edit White List
Clicking this will open the interface for adding or removing email addresses from the white list. The Whitelist is a list of users or subjects that will be allowed into your inbox after a confirmation.
Examples:

subject Product information request
from mike@myfriends.com
from gina@knowndomain.com
cc mailinglist@forum.com
to alias@mydomain.com
Once the person confirms the email by replying to the email sent from our system they get automatically added to the whitelist. You can remove them from the whitelist and add to the blacklist at any time.
Edit Ignore List
This is also pretty self explanatory. The Ignore list is a list of users or subjects that will be ignored when emailing you.
Examples:

subject Spammail Subject
from spammer@spam.com
from ignore@ignore.com
When these people email you they will not get an auto reply. They will be ignored.
Edit Black List
The Blacklist is a list of users or subjects to prevent from emailing you. The sender will also get back the warning message you have setup.
Examples:

subject Spammail Subject
from spammer@spam.com
from ignore@ignore.com
If these people attempt to email you they will receive an email with the content you have set up in the "Edit confirmation messages" & "Edit White/Black/Ignore lists".

I will post more faqs as they are requested. But Boxtrapper is pretty self explanatory unless it is broken.

Things in CPanel have been known to break so if there is any question of whether something is working correctly put in a help desk ticket along with the information needed by our tech to duplicate the problem. Our techs (or anyone for that matter) do not have access to any customer passwords, so they will need you to give any passwords that are needed to duplicated the error.

Boxtrapper seems a good idea to me but one thing to watch.
I tested it by making a white list and using my Wanadoo email account (which I had NOT added to the white list) to send an email to the Boxtrapper protected address.
The verification mail was properly sent - but my Wanadoo account classed it as spam and dumped it. So had I not been watching for it, I'd never have received the verification request, or known that my original email hadn't got through.
Just a point to keep in mind, it may apply to AOL and other big ISPs as well.
This makes its use iffy for me but I can't see what could be done.
I think the problem may be that the verification email subject contains a long number and # and that may trigger the ISP 'spam' filters.

Question whitelist by subject - 11-07-2005, 05:31 PM

I am not a page-zone customer (I host with a friend who leases his own server and has no idea of the answer, either), but hopefully you'll be willing to answer my question on this.. I've looked all over the web for answers and have yet to find them.

I've set up boxtrapper, and am needing to whitelist by subject, however, I need a functionality to white list by something like:
subject [New Post]*
or some sort of other regexp to accept all e-mail where subject begins with "[new post]" (for example).

I know with the "from" line you can do: "from @domain.com" to accept all from that domain, however, I'm unsure of anything similar for subject.

If you're willing/able to assist, I greatly appreciate it. If not, I completely understand.

Thank you,
Eric S.

Bounced Messages With Boxtrapper - 12-02-2005, 10:28 AM

Here is a problem that I've found with Boxtrapper: The verification messages that go to forged e-mail addresses get bounced back, but the address the bounce messages are sent to is "*****@serve.wwwroot5.net". I discovered this by accident and found 582 bounce messages. How do I get rid of these?

Hi,

There are some flash tutorials of Boxtrapper. The following site seems to be the best with very good explanation steps by steps:
