Auto Install - 10-11-2002, 01:45 AM

Hi I tried to install the auction script form the Fantastico Auto Installer on two different sites and it seems that everything with in the auction scrpit works ok except that on both sites I get this same error when clicking on the "Sell Link". ( See Below )
I am trying all the scripts out that come with the Fantastico Auto Installer before my site goes live to make sure that If I offer them for sale on my site that they will work.

Below is the error I keep getting.
Has any one else had this problem if so can you pass on the fix for it.

Warning: fopen("counter/auction_id.txt", "w+") - Permission denied in /home/neededho/public_html/auction/sell.php on line 192
Couldn't create file.

Thanks
Steve

The sell.php file should be chmoded 666.. In my opinion..

There are some directories in Auction that should be chmoded to 777...

THe Fantastico installer installs a 'cvs' version of oscommerce which is currently under dev... that is, it is the very latest version.. but not the 'stable' one..

While offering it to the clients, add a disclaimer and some links to the oscommerce development website, forum and other support boards... advising your clients that you can only help in installing and that they should visit the oscommerce sites for support..

Or else you might face a lot of questions

OK I give up - 10-12-2002, 02:42 PM

I guess I will just have to decide not to offer the Low Cost extras.

I have tried to install a few of them and have had problems with every one of them so far.

Yes I maded sure everything was "chmod" corectly.
Even uninstalled them and re-installed them to make sure but still get errors with every script I have tried to install.

This time I tried the 4imagegallery and here is the erro I get now.

Template Error: Couldn't open Template-Pack ./../templates/ult

Starting to have second thoughts about even being a reseller period.

I know I can't be this stupid, I have installed every one of these script myself at one time or another and some of them are still up on my other site which is not hosted here.

Here is a link to it, working fine, installed in less then 5 minutes.
No problem.

I am not looking for any answers with this post, just venting so to speak.
But if you have any suggestions I will listen and listen close.

Thanks for listening.

This is the second report on that error. I'm starting to wonder of the developer of that software (Fantastico) has enough of a user base to find errors quickly. The last update of the software was on the 18th of September.

The fix for the permission problem is to make (CHMOD) the text file writeable. This should have been set automatically during install. Sorry.

BTW, pretty nice looking site!

Thanks Jim.
Not ready to give up yet. LOL

Just got a little miffed there for a minute.

I just tried to install a few more and they seem to work fine.

Just installed the OS Commerce which seems to be working fine also.

While I have your ear can you give me the path to imagemagick?
I am sure I will be asked that a lot from the people I plan on letting know about my site.

Also do the customers have to tell me which one they want to use?
Meaning
1 customer signs up, wants imagemagick
Customer 2 signs up but wants to use GD not imagemagick.
Do they have to let me know while signing up so I can tell you whick on I need or are they both installed on the server already?

I guess for now I will not sell the extras but just give them away and not offer the ones I find I have problems with. The less support questions I get hit with the better off I will be LOL.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.
I still have a lot to learn with this cpanel and WHM panel but I think I got knowledge to get started selling the hosting packages.

Steve, I had problems with the oscommerce installation from Fantastico.. Actually the installation went alright, but some modules weren't working properly..
I had installed and played with oscommerce before and therefore, I uninstalled the fantastico installed oscommere and did the whole installation by myself..

Know what.., the instalation script that comes with oscommerce seemed more easier to setup than install through fantastico and meddle with config files..

I think that if you offer fantastico to your clients, you will not only be facing questions on its installation, but you will have to support them with maintainance, customization, etc.. if they are going to pay for it, they will sure look forward for some more help..

I would suggest that you either give away fantastico as a value added service at the user's own risk or you can offer customised script installation for your clients.. at an extra charge of course.

I am not reselling on my account. I have uploaded all that I need: Xoops, oscommerce, some forum scripts, images, and other minor scripts/packages to the skeleton directory.
i.e /cpanel3-skel/public_html/
Whenever I add a new account, all these packages are copied into the new account's space and I just run a couple of installation scripts and I am done! (yeah, mySQL Databases have to be made before hand, but thats not a great deal anyway!)

Looking at your websites, its evident that you are well versed with installations.. so maybe the above can be useful in someway.

Sounds like that would be my best bet so far.

I am in the middle of moving in with my girl friend this week so my play time will be limited till I can get every thing moved and settled in.

We talked about it and she really wants me to do this along with the other things I am tring to do so she is willing to pay all the bills till I can get this cranked up and going.

I build websites to make a living and have been working out of my house now for 3 years doing it.
Not making a killing yet but have been making enough to not have to work for the man the past 3 years. LOL

Here are the two latest ones I have done if you want to take a look.

http://www.mikeschmitzauto.com
The used car section on that site is a PHP script I used and enhanced to meet their needs.

http://www.programcartrader.com
Yet another car lot site.

I have two more lined up to do , one is for a local tv show and the other one in from a company in Mexico.

But I really want to get done with my hosting site first so I can ad them to my accounts of hosted sites and not have to build them some place else then transfer them later on.
(ust do them all in one shot so to speak).

Anyway do you know of a good place that offers a reseller account for Domain Names, I want to offer them as well from the hosting site and have it integrated it to it.

Thanks again for the info.
Everyone here seems so nice to deal with.

Thanks again:
SteveMac

steve: your mikesmitz site is one of the cleanest/sharpest ones I've seen - very good job.

I was going to comment on your "playtime"

Quote:

but guess I better not sounds like it will increase, tho. Depends on your definition of playing, I guess.

Anyway, I think you will do well, and I think this is a good place to host your clients. And yes, people are friendly and helpful.

Thanks stratplan for the kind words.

I get what you mean about the play time. LOL
I think it might increase even though she works her butt off she always seems to have plenty of play time on her hands.

Thanks again
