Internal Server Error & Can't Access CPANEL

Hello.
One of my customers has a website and I accessed their website via FTP to attempt to setup an ERRORDOCUMENT 404 statement in the .htaccess file.

So I went to check to see if the 404 was working by typing in an erroneous url (domain.com/blahblah) and it wasn't working, so I went back into the .htaccess and deleted the statement that I added figuring that I might have done something wrong.

Now when I type the website into the browser, I do not get anything but a 500 Internal Server Error. And when I try to go to the domain.com/cpanel, IE8 throws a message that I must be offline and to click to "diagnose the problem." Basically, none of the pages are showing up.


In FTP, the files are still on the server. Through FTP it says that I do not have permission to open the file.


So any help would be appreciated.

I resolved the problem by luckily having a backup of my website. So I went to my WHM and terminated the account and reset the account. Then I went to the website and uploaded the home directory and the databases.

So the lesson here is to have backups of your websites.
