Does anyone know if there is a free canned software package that would allow me to search for any particular word or phrase on my data base?

if you accept my suggestion>

use "font face" or css for the text on your homepage and aviod fonts with seriff.

"Trebuchet MS", Verdana, "Lucida Sans", Arial, Geneva, Helvetica, ... are nice fonts on Screen.
