FTP issues - 06-09-2003, 11:00 PM

Four days ago, I started having issues with FTP. I've used both FileZilla and SmartFTP, tried different configurations, and the same issue occurs: the FTP program is unable to get the index of the directory. I've been using FileZilla as my standard client for about three months without any issues. Then, without changing anything on the account, as of four days ago, I can't get in. Any ideas?

I'm trying FileZilla out, and like it a lot. But I've found it won't always upload a file ... has a "too many retries" error message ... pretty often. My trusty old WS_FTP never has a problem, so I suspect its something with FileZilla.

FileZilla - 06-10-2003, 01:36 AM

I've never had a problem with FileZilla. In fact, until those four days ago, it's actually had the fewest problems. SmartFTP was also having the same problems. To be honest, I haven't liked WS_FTP for some time, I actually had far too many ftp errors with it (although they've updated the code in all probability since I last tried it). However, the fact that literally like a light switch, I started getting error in the directories (I should add on all nine of my domains) , would seem to indicate to me that there is something else afoot. But woe to me if I don't try ws_ftp again. That would at least seem to remove the variable of the ftp program.

(insert banging head against wall) I decided to implement passive mode. Everything works for the moment. Now why all of a sudden I need to use passive is beyond me. It used to cause me problems, now it solves my probem...for now.

Jim did change the FTP timeout and login delay settings, so perhaps that has made the difference. I'll check and see if my FileZilla config is at passive mode also (I really like FileZilla, but the timeouts trying to transfer files drives me nuts).
