Autoresponder : setting vacation message prevents delivery of email! - 07-15-2003, 11:39 PM

Most vacation messages deliver the email and send an ADVISORY message to the sender. I recently set an autoresponder, went away for a few days, and came back to discover I had no email. On experimentation I discovered that email is not being passed through.

I now need to recover these messages or at least find out who sent me email. To do that I need to be able to filter the email logs. Is that possible?

I'd also strongly suggest (to c-panel and page-zone) that the fact that setting an autoresponder kills messages should be made very clear.

For what it's worth, my autoresponders work fine, except they send the response twice. The original mails are delivered, no problem. You know you can test these by sending mails to yourself?

There's no sign of email logs anywhere I looked on my accounts, you might try the Help Desk.

Thanks for the ireply. I used the C-Panel to set the autoresponder and this is it's behaviour. The example in fact says "I'm way until xx, please resend your email after that", which I should have taken as a hint.

How are you setting your autoresponder? (I used to do this via a procmailrc file which gave me complete flexibility). I also notice there seem to be several versions of c-panel in use.
