Question Cpanel - changing permissions? - 08-04-2003, 04:47 PM

Does anyone know if there is a lapse in time before CHMOD changes are applied? I have changed permissions on directories within cpanel and they don't seem to take affect right away. There is a lapse in time, sometimes quite a bit. Anyone have the answer to this? Take Care, Sharon

Not in FTP - 08-04-2003, 10:40 PM

I don't use cPanel for chmod - I use FTP. However, there is no delay - BUT the listing has to be refreshed before the change shows up in the FTP program.

I suspect that your change has taken effect but your listing may not show it yet. At least that is how it works if you use a standalone FTP program to set permissions.

BTW: I use the free WS-FTP LE from

http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm

Just in case you need a FTP that will allow you to set permissions (chmod)

John, can you tell me how you change CHMOD through WSFtpLE? I also have it, but I did not know that there was an option to change CHMOD.
Thanks and take care, Sharon

WS-FTP LE - 08-05-2003, 10:52 AM

Select the file or directory - then click on the right mouse button

The drop down menu will show chmod (UNIX) - and when you click on that - it shows the read-write-execute settings.

BTW: it's rwx rwx rwx setup so if you normally use the numbers / values e.g. chmod 755 - then you may want to read the bottom of this tutorial page

http://www.ibdhost.com/help/ftp/index.php

addendum: I forgot to mention - to see the permissions use Dirinfo from the menu. Then close the dirinfo - to use refresh - then reopen dirinfo and you'll see your changes.

In other words, you have to refresh then reopen dirinfo to see that the changes have been made.
