Question Subdomain Name? - 02-22-2004, 08:37 PM

Is there a little glitch with subdomain names. I have created 4 subdomains today with no difficulty. But for some reason, each time I try to create a subdomain with the name support I cannot get it created. The control panel shows it, but I cannot access it in any way other than control panel. Very Weird!

previous to the attempt at creating the subdomain support.xx.xx did the folder /support exist? if so did you delete it? if not then remove the subdomain and folder then recreate the subdomain. Cpanel has trouble if the folder is present, for some reason it has to do it itself for it to work properly. Just a guess but I think if cpanel finds the folder it aborts but fails to completely cleanup after itself so it thinks it created it.

just a guess as to the problem cause AFAIK cpanel has no restrictions to the use of the name support for a subdomain.

I did try the deletion of any folders that said 'support' Then I waited a while to let the server clear it out. Then I went back on and created the subdomain again. It creates it fine. I just can't access it. Even if I load up a test page, I cannot display anything that is in:

http://support.mydomain.com

I get an error saying it does not exist. Oddly enough I did other subdomains and accessed them without any trouble. I put a prefix onto the word support like this:
http://prefix-support.mydomain.com

It works fine and I can access it. So, it must be something about the word support. HMMMM

No, support is not a restricted word, I doubt there are any words restricted. I did a test and it worked fine. What are the perms? When the folder is created it would be set to 755, try setting it 755 if it's there set it to 777 and see what happens.

I tried several things to use that support subdomain, but I gave up. Actually it gave me time to pause and realize that for SEO purposes, I would get better pull from another subdomain name anyway. So, I am a happy camper again.
