Question time out from mail server - 03-18-2004, 09:33 AM

A couple of days ago, I couldn't download any mails because I keep getting time out from the mail server. My efforts to change the time out from 15 to 90 seconds were in vain.

I noticed from the mail program that it detected 3 mails but failed to download. I login to Squirrel Mail and deleted the 3 mails (which seems to be spams). When I tried checking mails with my email program it still showed 3 mails. I check CP's file manager and notice that there two userid inbox.

one at mail / username1
the other at mail / domainname / username1

The inbox at the former were 0kb but 13kb at the latter. So I kinda overwritten the inbox from the former to the latter. Check my mails and there were no errors, then again there were no mails. I proceeded to send myself a test mail from another account. But when I tried to download the test mail, it shows
downloading 1 of 1, 3% and it get stuck there for over a minute before it tells me it timed out from remote host.

I tried sending a help desk ticket but got no respond yet. I guess the team is busy. So I'm trying my luck to see if anyone here know how to get around this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Exclamation malformed header? - 03-18-2004, 11:32 AM

I've seen that occur with a 'malformed header', i.e. one of your email messages has a bad header and is 'clogging' the system for downloading it.

If you can see the messages in webmail, just delete them (saving what you need to) and see if it will then go away.

good luck.

Thanks stratplan!

Another friend suggested it could be corrupted email too, but the email was a simple text mail with "test mail" as body and subject. Anyway, after alot of googling I found out that it was the Anti-Virus program causing the problem. It was set to scan all incoming mails from the server. Somehow it timed out. I disabled the scan email feature and it worked.

That means I have to manually scan all downloaded mails in future. What a chore...

Thanks for reading and replying anyway.
