sf gallery (nukedgallery) - 04-01-2004, 03:10 PM

Has anyone gotten this to run successfully. I think I like it better than coppermine. I went through the install & config but got to the point where it wants me to change ownership to 777. That command failed. So I just ran the secure shell to lock it up and left it there.

Can gallery be run? It seemed like a pretty popular slideshow/gallery program.

not sure if you're talking about the same gallery I use or not. Is the sf for surge force? I've self-installed gallery several places successfully. You can see it at:
www.bonnietarses.com/gallery

Hope that helps,
Sheila

That's the one! I get permission denied when I try to run the change owner (chown) command.

Do you like gallery better than coppermine?

I haven't tried Coppermine. I tried the 4Gallery that comes in Fantastico and I didn't like it at all. Once I know my way around in a script I tend to stick with it. Not sure how to help you with the permissions thing...sorry...

Sheila

I couldn't resist trying Coppermine, so I installed from Fantastico, and uploaded a few pictures, tried different templates, and so on.

Coppermine looks better, in my opinion, for a stand-alone photo collection.

Gallery is much better if you need to password-protect your albums.

Either package will let you customize, and you have templates and themes to pick from. Or you can have a go at changing things on your own (a nice challenge.)

Thanks for checking out coppermine. I don't know how easy it to customize it but I can vouch for Gallery. It's simple to make it match your site with their html header & footer that is used globally.

Coppermine has a themes subfolder. In that are 9 supplied themes. In each subfolder are an html file and supporting images.

When you login as admin, you can switch to any of the themes, clcik two buttons and the changeover is immediate.

I think that the new Gallery has themes also.

There is a support forum for both, so whatever you can't figure out, you are likely to find help.
