adding a search engine box - 04-03-2004, 10:41 PM

With adding the free Search Engine box that comes with the Cpanel, is there a way to add a web page "template" so that the page that comes up with all the visitor's search request will see a matching web site's appearance rather than a plain white page?

thanks,
Karen

....also the search engine with the cpanel is an entropy search and it collects "every" file... isn't there a way to mark some as private so that it doesn't show all of them, like the css and text files?

thanks,
Karen

Not sure if it depends on which CP you use.
In Xcontroller its on the same place you get the code. There is an "edit template" link
youy may alternativle give the URL to a template in the search form as template=URL. Teh template is plain HTML with a <CGI> tag that gets replaced with the search output.

example:

<html>
<body>
<h1>My Search Output</h1>
<div class=blah>

<cgi>

</div>
</body>
</html>

template - 04-05-2004, 03:20 AM

but I thought templates ended in .dwt like in Dreamweaver ???

I have the X panel but I don't see where there's a place to "edit template" .... but I do see this tag in the s.e. box code:

<input type="hidden" name="template" value="default">

so I guess I would put the template url in the value there in place of default?

thanks,
Karen

A template can have any extension the programmer feels like using. I would think in this case you could use any file extension you wished as long as it was referenced in the URL. Thats the idea of a template being used for display. It's not complicated once you get the general use of templates figured out.

<input type="hidden" name="template" value="http://www.domain.com/templates/MySearchReturnTemplate.htm">

in general, templates are referenced by URL and data files are referenced by paths, but only in general, there are probably many exceptions.

template and search engines - 04-05-2004, 04:04 PM

ok, what do I put inside the template page so that the search contents will fill 'only' that particular area?

thanks,
Karen
