Viewing .htaccess file in CuteFTP, use filter? - 05-25-2004, 04:03 AM

A year ago, I recall reading a thread that someone replied to and gave some short instructions on how to set the FTP to view hidden files like .htaccess.

I did a seach but couldn't find the thread. Does anyone know how I can configure my CuteFTP to see the .htaccess file in the remote server? I seems to recall typing some commands in the filter but can't be sure.

Now that I formatted my hdd and reinstall my FTP, I realise I can't see the .htaccess file anymore.

Thanks in advance.

After some more searching on the web, I found the answer. Guess I should have done that before posting in this forum.

Basically go to the Filter in CuteFTP, check Enable Remote Filter and enter "-a" in the Remote Filter field.

Hopefully this will help others who are searching for it in future.

Thanks for your CuteFTP tip.

Sometimes I use FTP Explorer, and it has an option "Hide files and folders that start with a period." Whether or not I check this off, I still can't see .htaccess, for example. In that case I use SmartFTP.

Also, in WS_FTP, click "Advanced", go to "Startup" tab, and in the "remote file mask" enter -la - that's a dash-ell-aye - and they show up. Prob like the "a" in Cute-FTP

unix commands are used by ftp clients. ls is the command for "list" it has switchs, the -a switch means show all files, by default ls only shows non-hidden files, the -l is for long/detailed listing, default is file/folder name only. If you look at the server return in the bottom window you will se the commands go by...ls cd cp rm
