spam from my domain - 09-16-2004, 03:02 PM

Is there a way to prevent spammers from sending spam from my mail domain? I get hundreds of returned emails every day, listing phony email addresses as the original senders (i.e. 092454@mydomain.com). I would like mail only to be sent from the mail boxes I have created.

Thanks.

Go to your control panel, select Email, and set the default email address to :blackhole:

Also, just to clarify - they aren't sending it FROM your domain. The from field in the spam or virus is is forged and the mail is bouncing back to our server as a result.

That makes sense.

Thanks.

So what exactly will changing the default email address to :blackhole: do?

It immediately puts all unrouted mail (spam) - which isn't adressed to a specific email account that YOU created in CPanel into nowhere land instead of having them pile up on your disc space.

Ok. That will help me a lot.

But still, that won't stop the 100s of "returned mail" messages in my box. Is there any way to prevent people from forging email addresses?

If I understand your question correctly, using blackhole as described will send all of these emails to the bit bucket, becasue you do not have those addresses set up, or established.
