search engine submission - 07-07-2002, 06:59 PM

I'm sure that somewhere on page-zone's site I saw a seach engine submission formed but I'm damned if I can find it again.

Any pointers?

David

We haven't had anything like that on the site that I remember. There is a place that gets high marks from the promotion experts though:

http://selfpromotion.com/

Also - A lot of the major search engines look for the "referrer" on POST requests (url submission) to make sure that you're using their form instead of a submission tool. Or at least they used to do that.

There is also a newsgroup dedicated to sharing information about search engines:
alt.internet.search-engines

Thanks Jim

Very interesting, I'll take alook at those sites.

Me, I'm getting old and my memory plays tricks. Plus I'm paranoid.

Maybe you took the multiple search enginesubmission page down quickly, just to confuse me.

I've been known to put things up after an 18 hour editing stretch, only to sleep on it and come to my senses and remove it. I've built so many websites and pages I forgot, there could have been a search engine submission thing here at one point.

It's one of the "Tools" on CPanel 4, right after the shopping cart options.

Long time replying cos I've been away.

Right after shopping cart options on my cpanel 4 is xms options/ cgi options/ etc but no search engine submission.

I thought I saw one

You say there is one

And Jim says there isn't one......

I feel a mystery coming on.

There is a search engine submitter in the control panel. It is in the Iconic version of the control panel. If you would like that control panel just let me know the username & domain and I'll switch you over. I originally thought you meant the Page-Zone site itself.

I'm doing it right now. The ICONIC isn't fully supported. There are some things in it which don't work such as the add a domain function and probably a couple others. I'm not even sure if the search engine submit thing still fully works as the CPanel developers are sometimes a little late in updating the binaries for that.
I don't want to scare you away from it though, it does have a few more features than the control panel you had, but there is little we can do if one of the added features doesn't work. Also if you want to switch back on any of them let me know.

To get in you will have to start back at the original CPanel URL (yoursite.tld/cpanel) A bookmarked entry will get a 404 because it is a different final url.

Have Fun!

Doesn't the list of features read:

* Download upload your whole site backup file with one click,
including MySQL databases!
* Search Engine Submit script
* Configurable spam filters at the server level

I haven't looked for this script but I wonder if that is what david was talking about.

Lyn

Which is the best CPanel style to use? I have a reseller account and have noticed many different choices.

The best one is Coolbreeze. But it's probably a matter of opinion.

Yea it's what he was talking about, this thread started before the system wide control panel upgrades where the seach engine submit script et al wasn't a part of our branded CPanel. But now it is.
