The SBCGlobal info on this subject suggests,
Jim, Can we use port 587 for SMTP?Contact your mail hosting provider for information about using Port 587 for sending authenticated outgoing email. Since December 1998, Port 587 has been the Internet standard (RFC2476) port for authenticated email submission for mail clients and is supported by most major mail hosting providers.
Thanks

All of our servers are set up to use port 26 as the alternate port. The actual port number is irrelevant but changing it from 26 to 587 would cause much confusion to those already using port 26 for years.
So are 25 and 26 the only ports available? I have a customer on cbeyond.net, and it appears that they are blocking 25 and 26. I am able to send from a test account using the PZ SMTP on 25 and 26 in a different city, but she is not able to send on either port.
IF the ISP is blocking port 25, and a supposedly non standard SMTP port 26, its a pretty good bet the they blocking the RFC politically correct port 587.But we have the option to add one other instance of Exim on the servers. If CPanel.net offered the ability to add a third instance I'd put it on port 587.
