Chat Script - 12-04-2004, 06:55 PM

Is there a chat script that is installable by Fantastico on Ohio? If not, can someone recommend one that is easy to install?

Not that I know of in Fantastico - but there are at least two intigrated into cPanel.

Just click on the "Chatroom" icon in cPanel X (or Scripts -> Chatroom in xcontroller) and I recall it will give you HTML to cut and paste into your page.

Haven't tried this, but they should give you basic functionality. If you need a more robust solution from a third-party script - make sure it's Java-based and not CGI based (a condition of the PZ TOS is to only use Java chat clients to relieve the heavy load chat can put on the server).

In xcontroller, I only see phpmychat. In x I see chatroom also. Click on the chatroom icon, and then you see the html code mentioned by techweasel. Just below that is a java link that you would include in your html.

Phpmychat is an install, and uses a mysql database.

The ones included are not that great. Some are too clugey, some don't work that well.

Can anybody recommend a decent, installable chat program that works?

I agree wtih you about the CPANEL chats. The load is probably a concern.

TikiWiki has a shout box among other features. It may not be your idea of chat, but it seems to work fine.
