Not getting all emails again - 09-07-2005, 06:46 PM

I have a yahoo account set up to catch emails that don't show up on my root2 account. I have a forwarder set up to forward a copy to the yahoo address just in case the server goes down.

What I can't figure out is "Why does the Yahoo account get mail (legit mail-not spam) that my regular, root2 account does not?

Does anyone have an answer? Every kind of Viagra, BS mail seems to make it, but some legit emails do not.

Spam assassin? - 09-07-2005, 08:07 PM

Do you have Spam Assassin installed? If so, it has a setting for applying Bayesian (sp?) rules to messages. Sort of like have a message subject that says "Hi" only that could add to the spam suspicion.

Might check it out.

What is the domain name, and exact email address? We will need to run tests to tack down the problem, it could be many things.

Stratplan-
Spamassassin is disabled, spambox is enabled and the missing emails are not there.

Jim- It was a friend's email address from aol. I'd rather not post the address here. It was just your run of the mill aol address. I get tons of aol mail, but for some reason not this one.

I meant the email address on our server on the account doing the forwarding. Most of the reason for not providing individual support through the forum is the first question we have to ask is the exact details needed to duplicate the problem including personal information, usernames, passwords headers, etc...

If a mail is getting forwarded but not retained the problem could be overall disc space quota full, mail disc space full, or mail disc space WAS full recently. The later caused by mailbox filling up, the server changing permissions on the mailbox and not changing back to accept mail when it isn't full any longer. A filter rule set up in .filters. and more things I can't think of right now. Mailbox doesn't exist....

If we can duplicate the problem and watch the logs in real time while doing it that would narrow it down.

Gotcha-
The email account that's having the problems is theband@themachineband.com.
After the email came and went to the yahoo account, I continued to receive emails.
It LOOKS like the default account (which I don't believe is used) may have too much email, but I can't tell for sure. The reason that I ask in the forum is because when I send tickets, a lot of times, I don't get the response. I'll try dumping that account's email and see what develops.

Unused default mailboxes do fill up, and I've had that trigger messages about running out of space.

The solution? Route such email to the bit bucket or make a point of erasing it periodically by downloading or erasing via POP (easiest) or logging on to the webmail. If the latter, start by setting messages per page to a huge number so they can be batch deleted in a few operations. Be sure to purge deleted before leaving.

How do you set the server to alert you when the mailboxes are nearly full? I have some customers that get those, but I'd like to get them first...
