What CMS Software Do You Use? - 11-16-2006, 12:05 AM

I am wondering what other people use for CMS systems on their websites? I originally was using phpNuke but that was getting hacked all the time. I switch to postNuke but it seems to continually display errors because of mod_security.

From what I can tell, there is new software that is more popular such as Joombla. What do you use and do you have problems with mod_security?

Hi jjct1,

I have several Joomla sites running on server 16. Mod_Security does halt some of the actions initially but when that happens you turn in a support ticket and tech support will set the exception for you.

Joomla, like all the php driven CMSs has had it's share of security problems this last year, but the developer group is very active and the forum at Joomla.org has a great security section. Joomla has made the transition to running with globals_off and using php 4 or 5.

I use geeklog as well for several sites as well as a corporate intranet portal. The developer's attention to security is one of it's biggest pluses, but it's very configurable and easy to set up / use.

I just set up my first geeklog account...It works great when the servers are working...I liek the control, customizing the thems is a breeze.

I used post nuke for some sites. Liked it until they upgraded the theme settings and knocked out the custom theme I had created for simple websites. too much work to get it set-up like I want it so I stopeed using it.

I use pmachine pro for the news content on bunkfilms.com (I know I need to upgrade to expressions!). And I use geeklog for my www.indianapolisfilm.net web site. I've been using geeklog for a long time. May not have all the bells and whistles I want, but it is easy to use and the documentation on it helped me intergrated a film and talent database utlitizing the core security and session control! Great stuff.

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to try Joomla first. It seems like a very active community. Things have come a long way since PHP Nuke, glad I looked around first before deciding. If it ends up with too many problems, I will try Geeklog.

jjct1,

After breaking from the Mambo group one year ago Joomla has progressed to version 1.0.11. Version 1.5 is in beta and I just read yesterday that while there will be an upgrade path to version 1.5, it's going to take a lot of re-working to get there and users should not expect a painless automatic conversion like the previous updates have been. Here's a link to one of the third party developers that's talking about this. Joomla 1.5- What You Need To Know by Phil Taylor

I still recommend Joomla, but it looks like some extra work ahead of us to get to version 1.5.
