XMB Bulletin Board - 10-27-2002, 01:29 PM

Under CGI Scripts in my Control panel, I've tried Installing XMB, when I click on the link to install it from the CGI Scripts Section, I get the normal 'Install New Board' Page.I'll enter 'forum' , a top level directory, but when I click install....I get a page not found error....also....above mentioned page has phpBB at the top..should this be?Or does XMB not come with the deal?

Normally it wouldnt make a difference, but I have XMB installed on another site..and would like to transfer it over to a new domain I've set up here..

---Mike

Mike, you probably installed phpbb using fantastico.. right?
In that case, Fantastico would have installed the phpbb into /forum directory and thus you are not able to install the XMB there...

Just my initial thoughts, althought the problem might be something else..

Can you post the whole error message?

It's all rather strange - 10-27-2002, 06:58 PM

Under the CGI Scripts Menu in CPanel, this is the link that's led me to believe XMB will be installed

http://www.noaslcommunity.com:2082/f...d/cgi/xmb.html

when I click on that link, this is the install screen I get
http://www.noaslcommunity.com/images/cpanelcapture.png

as you can see, it says phpBB...not XML..when I do add a directory to install it to, either forum, board or whatever I get a page not Found error

The page cannot be found
The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Open the www.noaslcommunity.com:2082 home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP 404 - File not found
Internet Explorer
-----------------------
in the location bar , phpBB is referenced
http://www.noaslcommunity.com:2082/f...html?url=forum

I did click on phpBB2 in the Fantastico Menu...thinking maybe by some weird twist XMB and phpBB where mixed up..when I saw the phpBB logo though I didnt go any further

has anyone else been able to install XMB?

The server you are on was updated a couple days ago to the newest version of CPanel. Unfortunately the group at CPanel.net has just announced the discontinuation of XMB.

<quote>
Fixups Autoreponders are now limited to 15 responses per 1/2 hour instead of 3.
Fixed a problem with stunnel under redhat 7.0
(5.2.0 build 84 or later only)

phpMyAdmin Updated We now use phpMyAdmin 2.3.2
(5.2.0 build 77 or later only)

Index Manager cPanel now has an index manager that allow you to turn directory indexes on and off per directory.
(5.2.0 build 72 or later only)

XMB replaced with phpBB All new forums/board installs will use phpBB instead of XMB.
(5.2.0 build 71 or later only)
</quote>

CPanel.net rarely (if ever) announces changes before they take place. And we didn't know about it before updating CPanel since that server was set to update automatically. Sorry for the confusion. phpBB is much more problem free than XMB and that is probably the reason they dropped it in favor of phpBB.

...speaking of XMB and problems with said forum...the XMB Support forum is down..has been for a few days now*laughing*

It's a shame though...the XMB i'm using on the other site has only been up for afew weeks..but it has recieved alot of use....unless I can port the Members and posts over to phpBB , everything shall be lost (

Maybe I'll install it and find out for myself....i know vBulletin has a module that allows UBB to be imported over...we'll see )

Thanks Jim)

phpBB has a converter also. It is a two hour process getting it installed and converted but worth it if you have a lot of users.

phpBB - 10-27-2002, 11:00 PM

I recently installed XMB but haven't really started using it.

So maybe I'll wait until cPanel is upgraded on all the servers .. so it will use phpBB.

Any time estimate on when this will happen ?

TIA

Thanks - 10-28-2002, 12:01 AM

When I go into my cPanel now - it does show that it's going to install phpBB - but when I tried it - it says 'page not found'

I was trying to put it in a new directory but maybe I need to get rid of the old MySQL database for the XMB board

Can't understand why I couldn't have both (to test) - as long as it's two different directories - but I'm tired now - will try again tomorrow in a new account to see if it works - then when I'm sure it's working on the new account - I'll replace XMB on the current account.

Anyway - thanks for the upgrade.

<addendum>
I had tried to install it from the cgi script section of cPanel (that is how I had installed XMB).

I just now went back and tried it from the Fantastico Auto Installer - and it seems to have worked. Guess I shouldn't assume it was going to work from the cgi script list

Oh, it's pretty messed up at the present time. The CPanel skin makers haven't caught up. I am trying to get this fixed ASAP.

On a brighter note, I have upgraded Fantastico on wwwroot3. There is a new board there called Invision which is supposed to be better than both XMB and phpBB. The rest will be ugraded over the next few days or sooner.

Sample http://wwwroot3.net/iboard/

My server is xxxxxxx2. I still have the old fantastico configuration. Is that scheduled for update?

I am looking for a try at the InvisionBoard.
