RSS feeds - 12-10-2006, 02:40 PM

There are 2 main ways of running an RSS feed on a page. One is to install a local php script to do it, the other to link to a remote script which formats the stuff and displays it on your page.
Is there any inherent disadvantage in running someone else's script - it's certainly a much easier way of doing things.

Speed & Reliability will typically be better with your own local script. You can also tune the script if you need to.

I'm asuming that the other script is designed to be used publicly. :-)

Hi David,

I had a customer send this link today for the RSS Advisory Board site. I figure you've probably been there, but wanted to pass it along. He wanted me to read the article by Tom Markiewicz Tips for Publishing RSS feeds

If you want to generate the RSS syndication from a site built of static html pages, there's a Dreamweaver extension available. I saw a demo yesterday (by the developer) of RSS DreamFeeder and this looks like a very quick solution. He also sells an extension (RSS Replay) to post feeds from other sites into your pages.
