"550 Service unavailable or SMTP error from remote mailer after initial connection:

According to AOL:

"The information presently available to AOL indicates this server is being used to transmit unsolicited e-mail to AOL. Based on AOL's Unsolicited Bulk E-mail policy at http://www.aol.com/info/bulkemail.html AOL cannot accept further e-mail transactions from this server or domain. http://postmaster.info.aol.com/ has some information and a link so that you can create a spf record. I'm not sure if that will clear up your present problem but it is worth a try.

Same here (on root9, aka sb34, aka 8.9.24.34). These are the first bounce notices (blocked for SPAM) I have gotten from AOL in the 3 (4?) years that I have been here:

* 554 RTR:BL
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554rtrbl.html

EXPLANATION:

This error message indicates that a block has been placed against your IP address because we have received numerous complaints concerning mail coming from that IP address.

I've gotten them multiple times during my stay here at PZ. You shoudl read up at AOL. They will block if they get many complaints internally about the SMTP server's IP or if a server sends too many emails with bad addresses. Their threshold is set very low.

The solution is for the ISP (PZ) to vigorously crack down on those generating the emails that are causing the problems and to participate in AOL's feedback program that helps them monitor any SPAM/rejects. PZ has done that monitoring for at least some of their servers. I have no idea if they subscribed on any of the new servers.

If you email the AOL postmaster's they can generally help you figure out if your server is being more permanently blocked or just dynamically blocked. Dynamic blocks will generally clear through AOL in 24-72 hours.

All of the new servers are on the feedback loop. At least once, many I know have been requested twice, from Jim and me.

Never hurts to run a virus scanner either, maybe a little less than half the time a virus is behind the block, and there's actually spam being sent by the user they have no idea is happening. Almost always Outlook or OE too.

How Do we get this fixed? I'm still getting errors back:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its

I need to know the same thing. I have numeroous accounts that can not get email to aol accounts, they are pounding me with request for status update and I have no options for them. Page-zone has been little help with this particular issue. They keep say they are working on it.

Can anyone else make a suggestion? short of leaving page-zone?

I am at a loss, I can't charge for services that are not provided.

I just talked to AOL and this should be resolved within a week (they say 3-5 days). They had almost all of our addresses blocked, they should be whitelisted soon. We'll let you know when we hear more, such as if they for some reason don't actually do it in the mail service department, but I doubt that will happen.
