I can't see my site, but others can - 01-18-2007, 07:27 PM

[I submitted a ticket to page-zone about this yesterday. I have not had a response from page-zone, and now the help system won't accept my login or send me a new validation message. Now I'd doubly frustrated. I hope I can get some help from my peers here.]

I connect to the internet through a large Australian ISP (optusnet.com.au) via broadband cable. Since yesterday, I can't browse to my page-zone hosted website (www.marquis-kyle.com.au). And when I try to fetch mail the connection times out. Being unable to get email is bad for my business.

The page-zone server status page shows that the server my site is on (SouthBend-64.pgzn.com) is working. HostTracker.com reports that my site is working.

The technicians at my ISP did some testing, and say that there's no problem in their network, and that I should talk to page-zone...

I have run a succession of traceroutes, but I don't know what the results mean (except that the messages are getting beyond my ISP, but not making it to page-zone). I'd like some help to understand what's going wrong, and what I can do about it. Here's a traceroute report:

Following-up my own message:

My problem seems to share some factors with these previous threads in this forum:

Server 3 Not Reachable from Some ISPs
New wwwroot2

Might it be that chcgil1wcx1-customdotnet-pos.wcg.net (64.200.61.130), the last successful hop, is unable to connect to the page-zone server...

...or, is the page-zone server blocking traffic from my (ISP assigned) IP?

Everything is working again now.

I turned off the cable modem power for ten minutes. On restart I was assigned the same IP as before, and my web and mail servers were working.

It's a puzzle to me.

It sounds like you were being blocked by the security software at the Page-Zone firewall. Although getting through later with the same ip doesn't fit- unless a tech quietly removed the block.

Thanks Steve, that's a plausible explanation!

Ok, so that didnt work, is there anyone here that can help me? As stated before it seems that I cant see my site (says page can not be displayed) however everyone else can. Well actually anyone not in my house... my boyfriends computer also will not go to my site. He says that means most likely that our IP is being blocked by the firewall on page-zones server.

What can I do about this, I have logged a ticket with no response, I think I went to the old help desk section but am not sure... It's been two days and I dont have any idea what to do next. Please help

Thanks!!

I would clear any caching I could find. Rebooting the modem is one thing.

Is there a home router? Reboot that.

Clear the browser cache.

Clear the O/S DNS cache.

Make sure you leave the devices off for a minute or two, then start up.

Is there software firewall? Make sure you look at that, and understand the settings.

If your IP is blocked by the P-Z firewall, it's possible that only time will clear it.
