SSL Cert problems - 06-07-2007, 02:58 PM

I didn't have a problem installing the certificate originally last year, but now that its up for renewal I've been having nothing but problems!!!

Godaddy (the provider) sent me these instructions... but I can't get past #1 since my WHM doesn't have the menu item specified... how do I get to this page??

PLEASE HELP! I'm losing sales and customers with every hour that goes by with this stupid warning that my site can't be trusted, blah blah blah.

Quote:
i) Open the WebHost Manager and click Install an SSL Certificate in the SSL/TLS menu.
You will see a screen with three boxes on it. Your issued certificate, RSA private key and certificate bundle must be pasted into boxes 1, 2, and 3, respectively.
ii) In the first box, paste in the contents of your issued SSL certificate. If the certificate file is on your server, you may use the Fetch button to copy it from the file.
iii) In the second box, paste in your private key which was generated when you created the CSR.
iv) In the third box, paste in the Go Daddycertificate bundle (gd_bundle.crt).
v) At the top of the page click Do it.

No, its not.

Try following the instructions in cPanel. There is no place to supply the required THREE things.

Accoding to Godaddy support, at some point (in the last year presumably) it is now a requirement that all three items be supplied, not just the one that cPanel lets you.

That is what i did last year, and presumed I could do again to renew it... but it did not work.

(#&#$ this is frustrating.

No answers from anyone.

Support ticket being ignored, GoDaddy not being any help (except telling me to get a different host that, "more up to speed" as he put it), and I'm losing who knows how many sales.

It couldn't have happened at a worse time because I just did a big promo so this is my busiest time of the year other than Xmas.

A 2nd ticket finally got it solved.

I still don't get it. When I originally set up the cert last year, I'm sure I did it myself via the cPanel. Maybe not.

Anyway, what GoDaddy didn't explain very well, and was not at all obvious with the cPanel info... is that I had to submit the three things (Key from cPanel, my cert and GoDaddy's cert from GoDaddy) to PageZone and have them activate them manually.

This could have all been a lot easier with just a little bit of info from Godaddy. Instead, I had to plea in a panic to get the page-zone staff to help. I don't understand why it wasn't just automatically done when I renewed the cert and paid the money. What was stupid was my Godaddy account used words like "active", "renewed" and "current" and showed a 2008 date... my cPanel info showed a 2008 date.... yet browsers were told "expired", "not trusted" and "strongly advised you do not continue".

Oh well... now I know for next time.

Hi Steve:

I came across your post regarding to SSL problem. I hope you don't mind if I ask you to shed some lights on the process, since you have the experience.

I just purchased a SSL Cert from Godaddy and am going to install on one of my clients' site that I host on PZ. According to Godaddy, I will need to do the CSR from PZ. So now, I open up my Reseller's Web Host Manger and navigated to the "Generate a SSL Certificate & Signing Request", but I am confused about the required info as per attached screen shot.

What do I enter on "Host to make certfor"? Is it PZ or my Resller IP or my client's website address?
I would appreciate much if you can help.
Thanks in advance.
Bruce

Actually, I can't help... and when I posted above that it was fixed - it was not. I STILL have ongoing problems with my ssl cert. Godaddy insists it is PZ that didn't install things correctly... PZ just ignores it. They keep closing my ticket and its unresolved.

Best of luck getting better service.

Thanks Steve...I managed to complete the install steps using the 3 boxes and managed to see on WHM screen which says "OK" ...but it's really not. The client's site is not protected for all webpages and is not working probably. I'm stuck. I went to HELP DESK and no response....PZ support is really not doing anything...
You mentioned that you managed to install successfully the 1st year...
Can you tell me how did you configure SSL pointing to just one client's site and protecting all web pages on that one site? FYI, I did the set up in SSL manage host and did what I need to do...still don't work at all.
thanks Steve...sorry for trouble.
