Setting up phpbb?

I set up a phpBB from the control panel. It said it would log me in under the same name and password as I use to access the control panel. I do reach the bb under that username, but I get a completely generic bb entitled "yourdomain.com", and cannot find how to customize it, or anything else. When I enter my password in any box asking for a password, it says it's invalid. How do I get started after the initial installation from the control panel is complete?

To answer my own question -- I discovered how to access the mysql files for this bbs. No email address had been assigned to the account when it was created, so I figured out how to insert one, logged back in, asked the system to send me a new password, got one, logged back in under the new password, and found the "administrator" link at the bottom of the screen.

Is this a sort of riddle that new users are supposed to solve, to prove they're good enough to use this software?
