Formmail Clone, cgiemail... - 02-09-2003, 08:57 AM

Alright. I wanted to use the Formmail Clone script in the CPanel on my site at http://ourobouros.com but this page didn't work..

so I ended up checking out cgiemail and discovered that it was even better than what Formmail would've been for my purposes..

The form on http://ourobouros.com/infinite.html appears to process successfully but I have never recieved any of the test emails I sent myself. In fact, I've never recieved any emails to anything @ourobouros.com.. though I've sent plenty of test emails to infinite@ourobouros and admin@ourobouros.. perhaps this is just because the site was created less than 48 hours ago.. but all the subdomains resolve properly.. wouldn't the mail functions be independent of DNS anyway?

Lightbulb part of the problem, I think... - 02-09-2003, 10:06 AM

the call should be to "cgi-sys" instead of "cgi-bin".

I think (and have always used) brackets "[]" instead of parens "()" are needed for the required items.

I couldn't see your questions3.txt file but be sure to have a space after the head info, like this:

To: <who you want it mailed to>
From: [required-E-mail address]<if you want it here>
Subject: <whatever to tag it>

Name of Student: [required-Name]
etc,
Notice the space after subject line.

Hope this helps some. I like cgiemail and use it often.

I notice you are using cgiecho instead of cgiemail - although it is good for a test, supposedly, I've never used it. I just set up the .txt form to send it to me, then when it works, put the right email address in. Try it with a good email address.

That said, I would suggest:

1) try changing the cgiecho to cgiemail in the call;
2) make double sure you have an email address set up for infinite@ouroboros.com to receive it.

The above is like I have one setup that has worked for over 4 months without fail.

i changed it to 'cgiemail' and the form seems to go through.

there is definitely an infinite@ourobouros.com email account, as i can send mail from it with the webmail interface..

i just recieve nothing to it, not even messages replying to the outbound test...

I have to admit I don't understand the mail features here. I use the straight mail forward to send to my ISP and all send mail is from my ISP not domain mail.

I am sure you have a POP account set up with your ouroborous.com domain, right? And you have done POPs like that with other domains? If you find one that works (settings etc) then it should work here. Frankly, the webmail offerings just seem too complex for me - log in with browser, then choose which webmail type, then log in for mail. I've never used a domain POP acct. for SMTP but I have forwards and aliases for many to receive email.

Just for fun, why not set the .txt file to send the email to YOUR ISP mail account? Or some other working email to test if it sends? I honestly think the hitch is in your present infinite@... email account and how it is accessed, not the cgiemail. Just a suggestion.

Fixed my problem, yay.

I had an incorrect account defined for my "default address" on the domains noun.org and ourobouros.com

Everything is workin spiffy now
