Weather Widgets - 02-26-2007, 09:07 PM

I made up some weather widgets for use on webpages. Could some of you look at them and see of they display OK. I have no problems on my various boxes and browsers but would like to see if there are any display problems in the wild before I go and make more? Any other comments or suggestions are most welcome.

The index page is just a blurb on the widgets, the widgets are on the widgets page.

TIA

Your weather widget page looks great on my Mac in FF 1.5.0.10 and Safari 2.0.4.

Comes up good in these. It will need a dedicated IP for spry 4.0 browsers though. Host headers are alien to them.

Nice widgets though.

I'm done rediting this post now.

Steve,Jim,

Thanks. These are for a module to a community type script I'm working on. Weather data is a pain to get.

The weather kit has kinda grown. I have added a states section where I grab data for five cities in each state and it is displayed along with the state flag and map. There is also some data like state flower,etc. All data taken from open source or governmental entities or else from compiled lists that are not copyrightable.

I have also made a multi-day forecast bar that is adjustable up to 7 days. I looks good in 3,4, or 7 day styles. It is XML and I had a heck of a time figuring out php SOX to parse it. The nested arrays get fairly deep. Here is an example.
weather-type-day 1::
$data_array[0]['child'][1]['child'][3]['child'][3]['child'][1]['attrs']['WEATHER-SUMMARY'];

One bummer on the multi-day is that that the g'ment supplied data must be requested by latitude/longitude. I did purchase a zipcode file(6Megs) that has zips with city,st,county,lat,long. I have used php to parse that file and make all sorts of sub-files/folders and php files with
state arrays of cities
states arrays of zips
arrays of states with weather codes
folders with states/city/info.txt
folders with zips /0/00511/info.txt
state/city folders like:
STATE/CITY, ST/CITY, State/City, St/City, state/city, st/city
when I got done and zipped up it's a 25M file.

I built the array files so all I have to do is include them and it makes it lots easier to work with it on the fly.

If anyone needs similar ask and I'll send what you need. I cant send the zipcode text file but I see no reason why I cant share the folders or files I made from it.

A few more widgets and I'll have a weather system that is useful. I need to get a local radar and some warnings yet.
