I'm back - 11-20-2007, 03:54 AM

I'm all settled in my condo and its snowing like heck. My skis are waxed and ready. The lifts start turning Turkey-day. OH BOY!!!!

Spent a bit of time prowling around the Yellowstone back country and saw some elk, buffalo, wolves and a grizzly(why it wasnt denned up I dont know). Its great to be back in the mtns again.

...sounds like an adventure. You got alternating current, an internet connection and wildlife out your backdoor?

Hey Ronnie, sounds like paradise. What projects are you working on?

We're about mid-way thru fall in NJ.

Yup, AC, DSL and big horn sheep up on the hillside. DSL is a bit slow compared to what I'm used to(cable) but it will do. I threw a half loaf of bread out the door and the magpies had it gone on about 1/2 hour. It was fun watching them fight and hop all around.

I'm working on www.easybigsky.com right now, but am not in a big hurry. Fall??? its about 5 deg right now and will be down to 0 tomorrow night. The sky is clear and the stars are just waiting to be grabbed. I'd forgotten how the sky out west looks compared to the light polluted midwest.

Here is a couple of pics. I had more but I accessed my CF card with linux using my thumb card reader and for some inane reason it write protected the card and the only way after an hour of trying to unlock it was to use windows and reformat it causing me to lose the hundred or so pics I had on it. What really ripped me was that I discovered this as I was hiking up to Ouzel Falls so I didnt get any pics there either. And the falls looked great with runoff freezing into cicles on the canyon walls and water ouzels(a medium sized plain brown bird that dives for its food) playing/feeding in the half frozen creek. Arrggh!

1. looking out the entrance across the street (east)
2. looking down Ouzel Falls Rd. My condo is on the left (north)
3. view out the living room window. (north)
the south and west are only tree line views. The peak(lone mountain) splashed on easybigsky.com is to the west

Just caught this thread.

Wow! What a move. You must love it. I'm jealous (and I live in Boulder, CO - at the foot of the Rockies). Looks like some nice quiet living.

I once road my bicycle near there while on a self supported tour from Seattle to Boulder. I took this picture on July 6th on an unnamed pass just west of Ennis (on 287 between Virginia City and Ennis).Virginia City, Montana
Not so scenic, but demonstrates the variability of Montana mountain weather.

Yup. I've been hiking and skiing. Today was a great day, 14 and snowing. It is supposed to snow for the next week or so but might rain a bit monday. I went with my GF to West Yellowstone yesterday just for a ride and we saw some bighorn on the side of the road just munching away.

I lived out here thirty years ago and worked for the forest service on a wilderness area trail crew. You have to be prepared for any kind of weather any day of the year. I've seen snow every month of the summer at one time or another.

What a great place to live!
