A lot larger than cPanel's Fantastico Autoinstaller, these also have the benefit of going into an environment which you "own". What this means in the end is, there will be no surprises in script operability which can happen in a shared OS environment.
On a VPS you are root, and responsible for any updates to your own system, the
upside of that is your apps will not risk becoming broken by something we have done to the OS or LAMP services. And your website is in its own OS, so the
insecureness of someone elses site will have no effect on you. The
downside is, by not updating the systems you could risk eventually running an insecure setup.
