CMS + Free Templates

There are a few ways to get a website up quickly. The first way would be to pay someone a few thousand dollars. The second way, if you are a fast learner with 1000 hours to spare would be to get an html editor and build it from scratch. This is definitely the hardest way, especially on day one when you are looking at an empty white WYSIWYG screen.

But there is a third way that will have a website up in ten minutes and that is by installing a popular CMS system (content management system) through your control panel at Page-Zone.

Once the CMS is installed (a 10 minute feat), most will allow you to browse through thousands of prebuilt templates to customize the look of the website. These are contributed by people from around the world, the price is usually either nothing but a link back to their website at the bottom of the page (e.g. powered by Bobs Template) or up to about $100. The templates you buy are usually more stable across several CMS updates because the person creating it has a vested interest in its continued value to you. Keep in mind, regular updating of your CMS script is a necessity for security patches and it could break the template you are using. So you want to go with one that gets regularly updated by the designer. This usually involves paying a small amount for the template initially. Updating a CMS script at Page-Zone is also just a matter of clicking a button

Listed below are the top 3 free CMS and all can be installed through your control panel with a few clicks of a mouse here, with zero php or html knowledge. We recommend the first two due to the huge peer support.

Installing is a matter of entering the name of the directory you want to install it into, or leave that blank to install into the root directory of the domain, and typing in a password to get to the administration section of the script. If you are starting from scratch with zero html knowledge but a grasp of editing software and you are somewhat tech savvy, you will know how to use these scripts inside and out after about a month of self study.

We see a lot of web designers here at Page-Zone who use CMS, and sell their knowledge of using these these CMS scripts by putting up websites for others and they make a pretty good living at it, with very little knowledge of actual html because it isn't needed. Our client wins and their clients win because they get a great website up in days instead of weeks for a low cost.

WORDPRESS

For non-technical online business people, WordPress is a great option. Known primarily as a weblog (at WordPress.com), it has been quickly gaining ground over the years as a massive community has helped develop it into more of a CMS.

Not only can you write and edit posts easily, you can also write, edit and easily add static pages. This means that you can choose the design, or look and feel, of your site and continue to add as many web pages as needed to create a content-rich website. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to have the blog posts on the front of your WordPress website; in fact, you can set any static page as your homepage and have your blog inside the main site.

WordPress.org has numerous built-in applications: a blog, link management, dashboard, search engine, content syndication and user contributions. These all function smoothly as expected, though even more of the best applications are available as free plugins. The extensions currently included with this CMS should not go without mention, though. The user interface is quite easy to navigate and allows for quick content creation and management of the site as a whole.

DRUPAL

Drupal is an amazing assemblage of open source development that works from scratch to create something unique. The drawback of earlier versions of this software is its reliance on development as a maintenance tool. With the release of version 7.0, it has become a tool that those of us without a background in coding can comprehend. It is much more user-friendly than earlier versions, which makes this a valuable CMS for the world of websites.
